Honestly, I was going to be very disappointed if the island was purgatory/all a dream. SO GLAD it wasn't. Now I get to shove it in all the faces of the people (my dad) who said that none of it was real!
There's a great quote from Damon Lindelof (co-writer of Lost) about the ending. Basically, they wanted the viewers' feelings about what was shown in the final scenes to match their feelings about the show coming to an end. I think they pretty much accomplished that—beautiful, bittersweet sadness on all fronts. I MISS YOU, LOST!
Wait, so... what happened? I've never watched the show, but I still wanna know what happened. XD
at the end, it turns out that the alternate world was sort of like purgatory. a place where they could all meet up again in death because what they did together on the island was the most important thing in any of their lives.
