hi! vectors aren't that bad, they just have a really steep learning curve
i made a small tutorial here: [link] that shows my process
a lot of people find vector work a little stiff and uncreative, and it certainly can be, but the end results are really quite satisfying

The sleeping on the phone thing is really great. I came to your site from the comments section on the vector art news. Because I am trying to learn how to do this type of thing. I really cannot comment on the good or bad of this type of thing, because I do not know how to do it. I will be 55 and graduated a long time ago and would accomplish this as an illustration. However, If you ever make a good lesson/tutorial on this, I'll bite.

Just wanted to say that i found your Illustrator Tutorial through the PA forums, and it really helped me a lot!
I always wondered how people got the awesome line whith variation... i never even thought of just "drawing" the linewhidth.. I hope to finish something descent soon..
